Clothes BanksTHE BBC programme Fake Britain came to Harlow last week (Thursday 2 April 2015) to film for a national feature on fake clothing recycling banks.
The Council recently discovered six clothing banks placed in shopping hatches around Harlow, the owners of which are unknown. These clothing banks, carrying a logo for ‘Kids Go Green’, carry no contact details and no charity registration number.
Similar banks have been placed in other areas of the Country. One of Fake Britain’s producers visited several of the banks’ locations and spoke to Council Officers about the banks and the work the Council is doing to tackle the issue.
It is believed that these banks are not genuine and that residents could be deceived into thinking they are recycling for a good cause. The Council has placed legal notices on the banks and is following a legal process to remove them.
